Purple and pink HydroJug water bottles with DIY charms.

I cannot believe how close we are to the first week of school! If you're anything like us, you're slowly gathering school supplies, backpacks, lunch bags, and water bottles. This year we selected 20 oz HydroJug water bottles. We love that they have easy to grab handles, they come in a great selection of colors, and most importantly, they're leakproof!

Our daughters love the idea of adding their personal touches to everything, so we decided to use materials we already had from making charm necklaces to create these super fun water bottle charms.

Here's what we used (exact supplies can be found here):

• 20 oz HydroJugs

• Gold plated paperclip chain roll with lobster clasps and jump rings

• Jewelry pliers and wire cutter

• Gold plated enamel charms

Each girl picked out their cup and charms, and I love how their selections reflect their personalities! Our oldest selected the purple HydroJug and our youngest chose the pink.

We measured our chain length to decide how many links should be on the bottles. Seventeen ended up being our preferred length, and three charms per chain felt appropriate.

Next, we attached lobster clasps and jump rings so that we're able to take the chains off when we're ready to wash the bottles. We added one charm directly in the middle of each chain and one charm four links away on both sides for a total of three charms.
