We are always looking for ways to make healthy eating fun! Our most recent weekly challenge has been creating rainbow snack plates. Grocery shopping and snack planning has become a way to involve our kids in selecting a variety of colorful and healthy produce. Today's rainbow snack plate included red strawberries, orange mini bell peppers, yellow banana slices, green cucumber sticks, frozen blueberries, and purple blackberry Swedish-style candy fish with crackers and hummus. Our four-year-old helped with washing, slicing, and arranging our plates.

Our main focuses are to gain exposure to different textures and flavors as well as building a tolerance to seeing unexpected elements on her plate. Selecting fruits and veggies at the grocery store also helps to promote a sense of independence and allows for immediate interest in trying new things. Some questions we may ask are:

• "Do you think the strawberries will be sweet or sour?"

• "How many different colors of peppers do you see?"

• "These blueberries came from the freezer. Do you think they'll be warm or cold?"

• "Which utensils do you think we should use?"

Our four-year-old selected chopsticks as her utensil for today's snack.
